After Us, the Flood wins Best Feature Film Award in Boston
Directed by Arto Halonen and written by Ossi Hakala, After Us, the Flood has won the Boston SciFi Film Festival's Gort Award for Best Feature Film. Hugo Komaro, one of the key actors in the film, received a Best Actor nomination for his performance, alongside two other nominees. In the end, the Best Actor award went to Natali McCleary for The Air We Breathe
Boston SciFi was held for the 51st time this year and it is the oldest still-running genre film festival in the United States.
The festival circuit of After Us, the Flood will continue in the spring at the prestigious Fantasporto festival in Portugal, where it will be screened as the festival's closing film and will also compete in the festival's main competition.
After Us, the Flood has been a favorite of international festivals for over a year. It was awarded the Silver Méliès for Best Feature Film at the Science+Fiction Film Festival in Trieste, Italy, and was nominated for the Golden Méliès Award for Best European Fantasy Film alongside six other films. The film was also awarded Best Feature Film Award at the Ravenheart International Film Festival in Norway and at the Avant-Garde Horror & Fantasy Film Festival in Croatia, as well as the Best Director award at The Fantasy Film Festival in France.
After Us, the Flood travels through different time periods, examining the reasons why humans are unable to prevent climate change. The film stars Elias Westerberg, Linnea Leino, Tuomas Nilsson, Kasperi Kola, Petteri Summanen, Antti Reini, Pihla Penttinen, Hugo Komaro, Jari Salmi, Tobias Zilliacus, Jemina Sillanpää, Robert Enckell, Hannu-Pekka Björkman and Paavo Westerberg.
The film's artistic team includes cinematographer Pini Hellstedt, editor Armands Začs, production designer Teppo Järvinen, sound designer Jevgenijs Kobzevs, composer Jēkabs Nīmanis, costume designer Jaana Aro, and makeup designer Maija Gundare. The film is a Finnish-Latvian co-production, produced by Arto Halonen and co-produced by Latvian producer Aija Bērziņa.
