Arto Halonen’s film White Rage has been selected to two important European documentary film festivals.
White Rage has been selected to compete in the main competition with 11 other films in One World Film Festival in Prague. In Thessaloniki Film Festival, White Rage is also selected to the main program. The festival named the film as one of the Highlights of the Film Festival: http://www.cineuropa.org/nw.aspx?t=newsdetail&l=en&did=304600.
One World is held in Prague from 7th to 16th of March, and Thessaloniki International Film Festival partly at the same time from 11th to 20th of March. Both events are included among the world’s most important documentary film festivals because they are highly appreciated, and also visited by a large scale of viewers every year. Last year, 54 000 viewers participated in Thessaloniki Film Festival, and 120 000 viewers participated in One World. Among Prague, One World is held in more than thirty cities in Czech Republic, and also Brussels.
A Swiss company First Hand Films will be White Rage’s World Sales agent. First Hand Film is among the appreciated documentary film distributors in Europe.
White Rage is the story of Lauri, and through him the story of other victims of both school bullying and a separate childhood trauma: victims full of white rage, which may lead to school shootings and other extreme acts of violence. The film is also about our society: a society without sufficient understanding or desire to address the emergence of school violence. Later on Lauri became an academic researcher and respected scientist specialized in human aggression and violence. Yet when he was growing up he experienced extreme bullying. At two points – as a teen and again as a university student – he began to develop serious fantasies about committing a mass murder. The documentary goes through Lauri's life journey; how he became a carrier of white rage and how he survived this heavy burden by recognizing it and taking to action.
White Rage had its domestic premiere at Rokumentti Film Festival in November 2015 as an opening film. The cinematic distribution in Finland also started in November. The film continues to spread around Finland due to the school campaign produced together with the Finnish Association for Mental Health and School Cinema Association.
The film is directed by Arto Halonen. Cinematography by Mika Orasmaa and Peter Flinckenberg, sound design and music by Kirka Sainio and editing by Otto Heikola and Arto Halonen. The White Rage is produced by Art Films production LTD.
