Princess Coming to Cinemas in France
23.08.2016

Princess (2010), directed by Arto Halonen, will have theatrical distribution in France the coming autumn. The French Aramis Films obtained the rights for distribution of the film already in 2012. ”Princess is a Finnish film starring Finnish actors, yet touching people universally regardless of their culture. I believe that the French audience, too, will be moved by the exceptional humanity of the film”, states Marc-André Grynbaum, the director of distribution at Aramis Films. Princess will be screened with 40 copies in over 60 theaters around the country. In Paris, Princess opens at least in three cinemas.

Princess tells the true story of a former cabaret dancer Anna Lappalainen's redemptive struggle with insanity. She checked in to Finland's Kellokoski Psychiatric Hospital in 1945, and ended up spending there 50 years of her life. The film that stars the cream of Finland’s leading actors, was the fiction film debut of Arto Halonen. It gained a lot of attention and was awarded at festivals around the world. Amongst others, it was selected as the best film in South Africa’s Cape Wineland’s Film Festival and the Teaneck Film Festival in the US. It received special mentions in Festroia Film Festival in Portugal and Viareggio Film Festival in Italy, and at Tallinn Black Nights, Princess’s leading actress Katja Küttner received the prize for the best performance.
